Doug Pickering is a Dallas native and SMU graduate who started his career in private equity and hedge funds but just couldn’t ignore the call of his Texas roots and love for barbecue. After 12 years in finance, Doug decided to pursue his passion and started a catering business in 2013 with nothing but a single Big Green Egg smoker. As word got out and his popularity quickly grew, he upgraded to a custom smoker from Houston and the trip to pick it up became a journey which would help define his signature central Texas barbecue style. Since his foray into the chef scene, Doug and the concepts he has been affiliated with have collected honors including Best Chef in Dallas, Best New Restaurant in Dallas and one of the Top 10 New BBQ Restaurants in Texas; earning acclaim from patrons, media and the barbecue community alike. Doug is the owner of Douglas Bar and Grill, which recently opened in June of 2022 in Snider Plaza. Douglas Bar and Grill is a full service restaurant that offers elevated Texas cuisine including BBQ, Steaks, and southern food.
