Houston Participating Farms
Home Of Your Food's Origin Story
Collaborated on by chefs and tasted by you, our event helps our farms by buying their products and showcasing their bounty to the greater foodie community.
Blackwood Educational Land Institute
Founded in 2000, Blackwood Educational Land Institute is a nonprofit dedicated to connecting students with the land and fostering community. Initially focused on nature education, it shifted in 2014 to resilient agriculture, emphasizing food connection and closed-loop systems. As a teaching and regenerative farm, Blackwood offers programs on food origins, community value, and outdoor enjoyment, aiming to cultivate a conscious generation for a sustainable agricultural future.
Hood Family Farms
The Hood Family Farms mission is to raise food to the highest standards for the local community. This means treating our animals humanely. They graze on grass free of pesticides and herbicides as nature intended, and the way the animals rotate across the pastures is designed to add back important nutrients and microbes to support soil health and carbon sequestration. Simply put healthier soil = healthier forage for animals = healthier animals = healthier food for people = healthier people.
Southern Harvest Farms LLC
Southern Harvest Farms, founded in 2020, brings sustainably grown microgreens to Houston's high-end restaurants. Our motto is “Microgreens made easy.” We participate in a food prescription program and distribute at Urban Harvest farmers market every Saturday. Utilizing vertical farming technology, automated systems, and a climate-controlled facility, we ensure quality produce. Owner Shawn Premjee’s 18 years in high-end dining inspired the creation of Southern Harvest Farms.
Verdegreens Farms
Founded in 2016, Verdegreens is a leading hydroponic producer in the Houston area, dedicated to delivering fresh, high-quality, organic produce. They utilize both hydroponic and no-till organic soil-based methods. Verdegreens' mission has three core components: providing the community with fresh, locally grown produce year-round; educating people on the benefits of hydroponic farming and its environmental advantages; and prioritizing environmental sustainability by minimizing water usage, eliminating chemical pesticides, and reducing carbon emissions. Verdegreens is committed to fostering a healthier, more resilient food system in Houston through innovation, education, and sustainable practices.
Zero-Point Organics
Since starting with microgreens in 2016, Zero-Point Organics has focused on enhancing flavor and nutrient density. They supply a range of microgreens, herbs, and edible flowers to restaurants, hotels, and consumers. With a mission to boost health through tasty microgreens, Zero-Point Organics is USDA Certified Organic and engages in community education. Fun fact: Some microgreens, like sunflowers, "work out" by lifting weights during germination to grow stronger!
