Mark Wootton operates the longstanding neighborhood eatery Garden Café in Old East Dallas, where he
emphasizes the garden as a kitchen asset, incorporates local sourcing and treats the restaurant as a member of
the community rather than just a business. He started his career in hospitality as a dishwasher in High
School and fell in love with the kitchen environment and the constant ambition to be better.

He has been involved in environmental, political and community advocacy from a young age. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Farmers Market, Good Local Markets, and the Dallas Green
Alliance, and is currently serving on the City of Dallas’ Environmental Commission, Board of Directors for
the Junius Heights Historic District and Board of Directors for Autocare Haven. He has hosted and participated
in countless food and local policy related initiatives, events, and forums that support sustainable, progressive policies and officials throughout the City.

He lives in the Junius Heights neighborhood of Old East Dallas with his two dogs and cat.
